Birthdays around here mean a lot to me. Because seriously, how can it be that only two years ago, Declan was born? Two years--that's it. The impact he's made in just two years, is simply unbelievable. And how I couldn't imagine life without him, yet his time on earth has just been a tiny fraction of our lives. Declan woke up, all groggy eyed and bed head galore, on the morning of his birthday. He came downstairs by the light of the moon--yes, it was that early--to his new train table and his eyes "woke up." Mom, Isabella, Declan, Quinn and I were going to spend the day doing things Declan loves to do. Visiting the train in Fishersville, meeting Ryan for lunch, going to the park...But seeing as that day we got a kazillion inches of rain, we made a different plan. We hung out at home playing trains, making codfish cakes (one of his faves), cuddling, reading, and enjoying Declan. That evening we made his other favorite thing...pizza. We just had a family dinner with balloons and the traditional homemade ice cream cake. Isabella chose the flavors for Declan...strawberry and chocolate. It wasn't a day that went as planned, but it was a day about Declan and remembering the beauty he has brought into our lives...and we did just that. Remembered his life inside my belly. Remembered the many hours that it took for him to decide to exit my belly. Remembered the SCREAM as he entered into the world. Remembered the hours and hours it took for us to decide on a name for him. Remembered how big and bold he was and continues to be.

Since our day didn't go as planned, we decided to go to the park on Saturday with family. We watched the kids play---they had SO much fun! Then we had lunch (Declan's 3rd favorite, 'made by Mia ziti'..YUM). And then the much anticipated dirt cake! Declan saw this in the fridge that morning and took me to the refrigerator numerous times repeating "eat, now Mom?" It was another wonderful day. Another day spent with the most amazing kids in the world. Watching them grow, learn, love, and just enjoy eachother. It gets better every day.
